As a functional potter, my intention is to create natural forms with an organic feel by allowing the touch of the maker to be visible. I manipulate the surface texture, make impressions, and leave imperfections to heighten the senses in a harmonious way. I relish the way the hand responds to slight variations in texture through the juxtaposition of gloss with matte surfaces or exposed clay with smooth glazes. I favor subtle color and decoration over vibrant hues or bold graphics. In this manner, a balance is achieved between surface and form. My aim is to create a vessel that is as inviting and nourishing as the contents within.
